The Consortium for Capacity Building (CCB) serves as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, advancing a global commitment to strengthening resilience in the face of climate variability and increasing hydro-meteorological risks. As an educational, outreach, and networking organization based at the University of Colorado Boulder, CCB works across disciplines and geographies to enhance the value, accessibility, and use of weather, water, and climate information for decision-making that safeguards lives and livelihoods.
Aligned with the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador initiative, CCB’s approach emphasizes building capacity through partnerships with global networks of researchers, practitioners, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, and vulnerable communities. These collaborations—spanning initiatives such as El Niño and La Niña Ready Nations and broader disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts—focus on translating science into practice and ensuring that hydrometeorological information is not only available, but usable and actionable.
CCB advances the concept of hydromet security by strengthening the systems, relationships, and knowledge pathways that enable communities to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to weather and water extremes. Central to this work is the promotion of impact-based forecasting—shifting emphasis from predicting hazards alone to understanding and communicating their societal consequences. Through training, knowledge exchange, and applied research, CCB supports decision-makers in interpreting forecasts within real-world contexts, improving early action and reducing risk.
By integrating WRNA principles with its long-standing mission of capacity building, CCB fosters inclusive, science-informed partnerships that bridge climate science and societal needs. This work ensures that communities worldwide are not only informed about weather and climate hazards, but are equipped with the tools, relationships, and understanding necessary to act—advancing a future that is both weather-ready and climate-resilient.
